Preventing Legionella and stagnation in water services – awareness of problems, especially in a post Covid world.
November 19 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Speaker: Niall Phillips, Hygiene and Technical Services Manager, Hydraclean
About the session
This session aims to highlight potential problems with water stagnation, biofilm formation and Legionella proliferation in water systems and to show how these issues have been exacerbated by reduced footfall and occupancy in buildings due to lockdown followed by an increase in home working.
The session will also look at solutions to these issues and ways of balancing the need for safe water systems with the environmental and cost impacts of control regimes.
Niall has 33 Years’ experience in the water treatment and Legionella control sector. During his career he has been the Laboratory Services Manager of ABK Technical (ABKEM) and he also gained experience running the Rentokil Water and Vent Division laboratory and microbiological services.
Since being employed by Hydraclean he has specialised in system design and operation as a means of preventing Legionella and other bacteria from proliferating in water systems instead of using treatment regimes, such as chlorine dioxide etc…, that mask underlying system problems. He also designs and delivers Legionella awareness training courses and has run and helped develop Legionella control programmes for a range of clients including nuclear sites, aerospace, major manufacturing industries, universities, social housing and other sectors.
