Thursday 19 November 2020, 13.30 to 14.30

Venue: Zoom meeting

Topic:  Preventing Legionella and stagnation in water services – awareness of problems, especially in a post Covid world.

Speaker: Niall Phillips, Hygiene and Technical Services Manager, Hydraclean

Niall gave members an insight into the way that Legionella bacteria thrived in stagnant water. He highlighted potential problems with water stagnation in workplace water systems leading to biofilm formation and Legionella proliferation and ways of preventing this from happening. He also considered ways of balancing the need for safe water systems with the environmental and cost impacts of control regimes.

He then explained how these problems have been exacerbated by reduced workplace footfall and limited occupancy in buildings due to Covid-19 regulations and an increase in home working.
