SCOHSG members, who had been security checked before the site visit, were given privileged access to the construction sites at Sellafield Nuclear Power Station, Cumbria. They were welcomed by Dave McCaul, Health Safety and Environmental Manager, Balfour Beattie Construction Services UK. He then gave them a site safety briefing that included an insight into the way that Balfour Beattie is developing a proactive zero harm safety initiative culture across the construction site.
The site visit included a tour through the Sellafield construction sites past the Magnox Swarf Storage Silos (MSSS) and a visit to the construction staff welfare facility. Members also observed part of a cherry picker training session for MEWP operators.
