About the session
Ian gave members an overview of the hazards associated with work equipment that focussed mainly on fixed machinery. It included discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of different guarding options. The main topics covered were:
- Basic principles of Work Equipment and Machinery Safety.
- Machinery hazards including things to look for when carrying out a machinery safety assessment.
- Guarding and safety devices.
- Legislation relating to the supply and use of machinery and work equipment.
- Lifting equipment.
Ian’s presentation was illustrated with photographs with examples of good and bad practice that he saw during site visits as an insurance liability surveyor and risk consultant.
