Denise Aitken, Compliance Officer, Hampton Knight, emphasised that workplaces need to have drug and alcohol policies that are applied uniformly to all employees, that are seen to be fair, that are accepted as an effective way of improving workplace safety and that provide a support programme for employees with dependency problems. She also examined the potential role of drug and alcohol testing within these workplace policies.

Denise’s presentation led to a lively debate about practical ways of dealing with alcohol and drug abuse in the workplace.
